Bubble

a music ideation app written in React Native

Every original thought lasts at most 18 seconds

Making music is hard. In addition to understanding music, composers need to learn how to use complex music creation software that takes out much of the organic nature of music creation

This is where bubble comes in. It is a lightweight ideation tool that lets artists 'jot down' musical ideas as short snippets, and layer them over each other in order to naturally create new music. I have used the app in a classroom full of musicians and created music in under 1 minute

This app was created in Lavalab, a startup incubator at USC. My team and I presented the app to executives at Capitol Records during Captiol360. I was responsible for the development of the complete app (front-end + backend) in react native

Intro to Image Classification

They're hard to tell apart

This was the project I made to teach myself the basics of machine learning based image classification. I gathered the data myself, and learned the basics of learning rate optimization, data normalization, and best practices. I ended up with a Resnet-34 architecture that achieved ~97% accuracy on my test data.

I used the fastai library based on pytorch, and did all the training in a jupyter notebook, and then I created an evaluator class and a flask server to test the model on test images

Machine Learning and NLP based classification of News Articles

Making sense of the news

A simple Classifier to take the words in an article, and use the nouns to group articles by topic. I wrote scripts to semi-autonomously pull news titles to generate training sets for the naïve-bayes classifier. These titles are then fed into the classifier, which later parses and cleans words in title to figure out the broad topic of the article

This is an ongoing project that I am working on. The broad classification is step one. I then plan to gather the specific topic(s) of articles, using them to group articles into stories. These stories will then provide context towards any new article

Banana Tracker

Object Tracking with OpenCV

It finds bananas. Really.

Uses OpenCV to recognize color and shape, then follows object around on screen. Uses basic filtration techniques such as HSV filtering and noise reduction to improve reliability in varied light environments. Works best on bananas.

A Classic Arcade Game, Augmented with Motion Controls

Built a fully functional Claw Machine using an Arduino, stepper motors, timing belt, wood, and custom 3D printed parts. The claw is controlled with a Myo, an armband that reads electrical impulses from to determine what your hand is doing

A program to convert sounds into a visual art piece, mimicing the rippling of drops on water. Using input from a microphone or directly from a midi instrument (or anything with a headphone jack) the program sses a fourrier transform on the audio data, and uses frequency and volumes to determine where ripples will show and what colors they will be

The reason I became an engineer

Built a 120 lb. robot in 6 weeks to compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition. It picked up foam balls, traversed obstacles, and then scored the balls into a goal 10 ft in the air. Winner of the Excellence in Engineering Award and the Imagery Award, for excelence in technical design and branding and visual appeal, respectively. Semi-finalists in both the Central Valley and Silicon Valley Regional
